frost/nixon @ chelsea curzon
directed by ron howard, starring frank langella, michael sheen fascinating duel of very different types of brittle egos, perfectly paced and brought to ‘the moment’ wonderfully.
David Frost: Are you really saying the President can do something illegal? Richard Nixon: I’m saying that when the President does it, that means it’s *not* illegal!

the wild bunch @ bfi
directed by sam peckinpah. starring william holden, ernest borgnine, robert ryan, warren oates, ben johnson, jaimie sanchez and edmund o’brien. technological advancements are leaving the old outlaws behind but they don’t want to let go without one final score… the standout scenes are undoubtably the incredible shootouts - i do wonder how they managed to do the stunts, especially...

bring me the head of alfredo garcia @ bfi
directed by sam peckingpah and starring warren oates and isela vega.
bennie’s quest to earn the reward offered for proof of alfredo garcia’s death becomes his personal downfall as he loses everything in it’s pursuit. lots of gunslinging, pistol poppin’.
“Why? Because it feels so damn good!”
“You guys are definitely on my shit list!”

francis bacon @ tate britain
not enjoyable but astounding work, lots of sinister looking humans and animals with no eyes and savage teeth. has a strange fascination with the pope. vertical lines and confined spaces actually add to the sense of fear that i felt when looking at the pieces, i think because i was then imagining them breaking out. a dark world.
